Broken Avdo Kalajdžić: 'If I could, I would trade everything for my life'

(Patria) - Following the brutal murder of Aldina Jahić (32) in Mostar, numerous public reactions followed. Outrage, sadness, and anger prevailed due to another femicide that, many say, could have been prevented if the system had reacted in time. The father of Anis Kalajdžić, the suspect in Aldina's murder, also found the strength to speak.

Football legend Avdo Kalajdžić spoke with great pain to Republika.

"My family and I are shattered with pain in our hearts and souls. It is indescribably difficult for us. We are sorry for the innocent and dear girl who lost her life. If I could turn back time, I would wish it happened to me, not to that wonderful girl," Avdo began, adding:

"I am also broken by the fate of my son, who was a model child in the city and beyond. Anis was a kind soul and a young man whom everyone loved. He was an athlete, a sports official, and a referee who worked exemplarily. He loved that girl and they had plans for life, but something terrible broke in his head and ended tragically for both families".

"What happened in his head is difficult to say now, and the reasons are senseless because the girl is no longer here, to our regret. It is hard to say anything. The pain and sadness are immeasurable. A tragedy and destroyed families," emphasized the football ace.

He expressed his deepest condolences, on behalf of himself and his family, to the family of the murdered girl.

"To the Jahić family, relatives, and friends, my family and I express our deepest condolences in these difficult moments for them and their loved ones. I wish them peace and patience for dear Aldina," Avdo concluded tearfully to Republika.

Let us remind you, on Sunday evening in Mostar, 32-year-old Aldina Jahić was murdered, shot dead by her ex-partner, 33-year-old Anis Kalajdžić, a long-time football referee in the First League of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The brutal murder occurred as she was going to training. She tried to escape from the bus station and took refuge in the toilet of a nearby catering facility, from where she managed to call the police. Unfortunately, the killer caught up with her and killed her before help arrived.

The police quickly arrived at the scene and arrested him.

The suspect in the murder, Anis Kalajdžić, was handed over to the jurisdiction of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Prosecutor's Office on Monday evening.

As stated earlier by the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Prosecutor's Office, after the criminal investigation at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of HNK was completed, the suspect was handed over to the Prosecutor's Office within the legal deadline with a report on the committed criminal offense.

The acting prosecutor will question the suspect and then submit a motion to the competent court for the determination of pre-trial detention.
