(Patria) - As a citizen of Sarajevo and a member of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, I cannot accept Sabine Ćudić's assessments regarding the nature of the war and the siege of Sarajevo, or her statements in which she avoids stating the essential fact about the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina and its capital city - stated Slaven Kovačević, advisor to the BiH Presidency member Željko Komšić.
"The siege of Sarajevo, during which more than eleven thousand of our fellow citizens were killed, was an integral part of the attempt to destroy Bosnia and Herzegovina as an independent and internationally recognized state. No euphemisms about fighting for some kind of power can obscure these historical facts. The judgments of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, concerning the siege of Sarajevo, do not speak anywhere of some struggle for power, but of very concrete war crimes and the perpetrators of those crimes.
It is particularly concerning that a high-ranking official of the ruling coalition so easily engages in relativizing historical and judicially established facts. This negligence not only shows an attitude towards the state in general, but further encourages the very same hegemonic policies that are still attacking the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina today.
I call on the representatives of the ruling Trojka to apologize to the citizens of Sarajevo, instead of complaining about the justified dissatisfaction of citizens initiated by Ćudić's thoughtless statements.
