USK Assembly Adopts New Law on Secondary Education, New Feature is the Possibility of Establishing a Secondary Police School!

(Patria) - The Assembly of the Una-Sana Canton (USK) today adopted the Law on Secondary Education, which will enable the establishment of various profiles of secondary schools, including a secondary police school.

- The new Law on Secondary Education enables the establishment of a secondary police school, but this is a process that requires a feasibility study and other processes, but the Law has provided the basis.

This has enabled the establishment of various secondary schools at the institutional level, including a police school - explained the President of the USK Assembly, Nisvet Jusić (SBiH), to the Patria Agency.

The explanation of the Law states that the existing Law on Secondary Education of the Una-Sana Canton was adopted more than ten years ago and does not correspond to modern educational challenges, the development of inclusive education, digitalization, market demands, and EU standards.

The new Law, among other things, aligns secondary education with labor market development and European educational policies, clarifies the status of students, teachers, and schools, ensures inclusivity, equality, and prohibition of discrimination, introduces digital tools, career counseling, and school safety measures, systematizes types of schools, the role of school communities, and criteria for establishing, operating, and terminating schools, teacher licensing, and external and internal evaluation.

The SDP Club emphasized that this is a high-quality and well-prepared legal solution. The opposition says the law is innovative and of high quality.

This legal solution was prepared by the previous USK Government, i.e., the Ministry of Education, and adopted by the new majority. Therefore, the opposition SDA Club fully supported the law, and the Club President Asmir Ćufurović told Patria: "The intention was to create an innovative law, close to European standards".

- The implementation of the Law will be challenging in several segments, primarily in the segment of depoliticizing education. The second challenge will be the problem of staffing solutions, as we have a shortage of staff. The financial aspect is also a challenge - stated Ćufurović.

Regarding the novelty concerning the secondary police school, he says that many creative solutions will be needed for it to come to life.

- I think it is primarily a good thing and that we have a problem with the Police Academy in Sarajevo because, due to capacity, it cannot cover the entire Federation.

The law was supported almost unanimously, but challenges follow the adoption of the legal solution. They are ahead of us, and we hope the challenges will be overcome - concluded Ćufurović.
