Turkish Parliament Issues Declaration on Srebrenica Genocide: We Share the Pain of the Murdered, We Will Never Forget

(Patria) - The Grand National Assembly of Turkey has issued a joint declaration condemning the Srebrenica genocide.

The Turkish parliament released a joint declaration on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica.

A joint declaration condemning the Srebrenica genocide was published with the signatures of the political parties of the state parliament.

"We sincerely share the indescribable pain of those murdered in a persecution not recorded in Europe since World War II," the declaration states, adding:

"We express our sincere condolences to the grieving families of the victims and our Bosniak brothers on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, one of the darkest pages in human history. The greatest crime of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina was committed in July 1995 in the city of Srebrenica, which was declared a safe zone by the decision of the United Nations Security Council. This crime was qualified as genocide by the decision of the International Court of Justice of February 26, 2007. Furthermore, the decisions of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia stated that what happened in Srebrenica was genocide," the declaration reads.

It is further emphasized that on the occasion of another sad anniversary, they strongly condemn the genocide and recall the words of the late Alija Izetbegović that genocide must never be forgotten, because otherwise, it could be repeated.

"We want to emphasize that we will never forget the Srebrenica genocide, and that we will never allow similar events to happen again," the declaration states, adding:

"We will forever continue to remember the Srebrenica genocide and strongly support the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
