KS Assembly still on 'summer recess': Dismissal of Mesihović and appointment of a new Minister of Higher Education at the next session

The last session of the KS Assembly was held on July 15, and by the end of this week, it should be known when the next session will be held after the summer break.

According to Patria's information, a meeting should be held tomorrow to determine the dates for the KS Assembly Collegium, and then the session itself. However, the first next session is not expected before September 20, and possibly not until the end of the month.

Given the developments in the KS Government, the KS Assembly should finally dismiss the Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth of KS Adna Mesihović, a candidate of ZNG, who is under suspension following her arrest and investigation by the KS Prosecutor's Office in connection with abuse of position and illegal employment in the Ministry.

Mesihović spent two months in custody, and after her custody was lifted and restrictive measures were imposed, KS Prime Minister Nihad Uk asked the Election and Appointment Commission to suspend her, which was done.

In the meantime, Damir Marjanović, founder of ZNG, decided to leave the KS Assembly, and although he announced that Tarik Jažić would replace him, that did not happen. The Central Election Commission of BiH awarded the mandate to the next person on the list, Adna Mesihović, and she decided to accept the mandate.

However, the procedure is such that Mesihović cannot take over the mandate of a deputy in the KS Assembly until the Assembly dismisses her from the position of minister. Now, the KS Prime Minister should officially submit a proposal for her dismissal.

At the same time, the Trojka (Three) coalition does not want to talk about a new candidate for the higher education portfolio, and more details should be known in the next ten days. As sources close to the Trojka's negotiation teams in KS told Patria, the candidate comes from the University of Sarajevo. ZNG remains present in the KS Government with the Minister of Finance Afan Kalamujić.

Since Mesihović was arrested, the Ministry was first managed by the Minister of Justice and Administration Darja Softić Kadenić (Our Party), and from the second half of July, it was taken over by the Minister of Economy of KS Zlatko Mijatović (People and Justice).

It is still unknown whether the law that will enable the payment of the remaining part of the subsidies for the purchase of the first property under the public call from 2023 will be on the agenda of the next KS Assembly session. 5.5 million KM is needed for this purpose.

By the end of September, the KS Government should also pay the vacation allowance to public sector employees.
