KS Assembly to Award Recognitions: Edin Džeko Among Recipients of KS Plaque for Sports Development and Promotion of BiH Worldwide

(Patria) - The KS Assembly will hold a session on May 5, the Day of Remembrance of the Murdered Children of Sarajevo, which is also a Day of Mourning in KS. On the agenda are two decisions on proclaiming Honorary Citizens of Sarajevo Canton, namely Irfan Mirza and Ivan Zahinos Ruiz, and 13 decisions on awarding the KS Plaque.

Irfan Mirza was nominated for his humanitarian contribution to the defense of Sarajevo and BiH from aggression, for promoting Sarajevo and BiH on the international stage, for his research work on BiH in the field of history, and for his active work with new generations of Bosnians and Herzegovinians in the USA.

Spaniard Ivan Zahinos Ruiz was the initiator of aid for war-torn Sarajevo and the projects that Barcelona organized in Sarajevo. He arrived in Sarajevo in 1998 as a member of a group of opticians from Spain who provided health services and delivered glasses to the citizens of Sarajevo. He also wrote travelogues about Sarajevo for Spanish newspapers. He also filmed a documentary about Sarajevo – Maldita - A Love Song to Sarajevo, with which he paid tribute to this city. Ivan still returns to Sarajevo today, to which he has been connected since the period of aggression.

Among the recipients of the public recognition KS Plaque for 2025 are the captain of the BiH national football team Edin Džeko for his exceptional contribution to the development and affirmation of sports, for achieved top results, and for promoting Sarajevo Canton and BiH worldwide, Fahrudin Kučuk, Safudin Čengić, Hasija Borić-Stojić, the Association of Mothers of the Enclaves of Srebrenica and Žepa, the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of Sarajevo 92-95, the Association of Patients with Prostate Cancer of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Helifilm Production, and the Hazreti Hamza Choir.

Posthumous recognitions will be awarded to Halid Bešlić for his exceptional contribution to the development of culture and musical art, for the indelible mark he left on the artistic scene in BiH and the region, and for his demonstrated kindness and humanity.

Bešlić was nominated by deputies Rusmir Pobrić and Elvedin Okerić, as well as the SDP BiH Club in the KS Assembly.

Plaques will also be awarded posthumously to Avdo Palić, the heroic commander of Žepa, for his immeasurable contribution to the defense of the country and his personal sacrifice as the highest act of humanity, and to Ramiz Nukić for his long-term and dedicated work in finding the remains of the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica.
