(Patria) - Organized by the Canton of Sarajevo, the City of Sarajevo, and the Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law of the University of Sarajevo, a gathering will be held today at the Sarajevo City Hall to mark the 30th anniversary of the Markale massacre, starting at 10 AM.
As part of the program, an exhibition by the Institute titled “CRIMES AT MARKALE: Killing and wounding of civilians – prosecution of perpetrators, denial of truth, resistance to forgetting” will be presented. The authors are Dr. Muamer Džananović, Director of the Institute, Dr. Merisa Karović-Babić, Senior Research Associate at the Institute, and Mr. Sead Muhić, Research Associate at the Institute.
The exhibition „CRIMES AT MARKALE: Killing and wounding of civilians – prosecution of perpetrators, denial of truth, resistance to forgetting“, organized by the Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law of the University of Sarajevo, presents documents, photographs, and video recordings that detail the massacres at the Sarajevo market of Markale during the siege of Sarajevo (1992–1996). The authors of the exhibition emphasize that the goal of the presentation is to preserve the memory of the victims, educate the public, and confront the truth about the crimes, with an emphasis on judicial and institutional responsibility and the prevailing denial narratives that attempt to relativize historical facts.
The exhibition will be displayed at the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina from August 29 to September 15, 2025, and is open to visitors.v
