United States deploys special operations aircraft and troops to the Caribbean

(Patria) - The United States this week moved a large contingent of special operations aircraft and several cargo planes carrying troops and equipment to the Caribbean region, according to a Tuesday report by the Wall Street Journal, which cited U.S. officials and flight tracking data.

The deployment provides Washington with additional military options in the region as the Donald Trump administration increases pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, Reuters reports.

President Trump recently escalated actions against Venezuela, imposing a blockade on oil tankers entering and leaving the South American country.
Trump also declared Venezuelan airspace closed and has not ruled out the possibility of airstrikes.
