(Patria) - Dear parents/guardians of primary school students in Sarajevo Canton, thank you for your support and every form of cooperation you have had with us, the educators, during the period of expressing dissatisfaction and calling on everyone to improve the situation for all our children, according to the Open Letter from the Cantonal Board of the Independent Union of Primary Education and Upbringing of FBiH addressed to the parents of students in KS.
"These three days of strike were not a call to idleness, but a call for a change in the situation, because we know that if this is not stopped, it will further lead to despair with new changes that do not bring what our children need and deserve. These three days were a call for a better future for our children and all of us.
We invite you all to contribute and offer everything that is best, from good teachers to a happier future for all our children. The standards they adopted in March are not good because they have jeopardized the rights of workers and must be repealed or, together with us, all the flaws in those Standards must be corrected," the letter stated.
It adds: "We have suspended the strike, taking into account both our children and your children, because educators also have their own children whom they think about every day. We have not stopped fighting and we will not, and we assure you all that salaries are just our existence, while a happy child and teacher are our only goal. Fewer mandatory subjects and class hours, introduction of the right to choose what a child can and likes. More learning through play and practice. Less reproduction, and more action from our children. Less administration, and more time to talk about everything that troubles our children. Professional orientation, not stressful external matriculation exam. A matriculation exam in which they will show what they want. Enrollment in the desired secondary school without stress and tears, according to the child's affinities, not according to some enrollment quotas. Programs in which they know what they are learning, not programs in which even teachers do not know what they are teaching. Fewer instructions on which they learn after school, and more knowledge that will be useful to them throughout life".
"We, the educators, are moving forward in this fight, we will not stop, and we know how much your child's happiness means to you parents/guardians. We are a Union that has long gone beyond the framework where 'we want higher salaries' is not the only slogan and the only goal. Due to all of the above, we are convinced that we are on the same side and that you will support our activities, our protests in May, and other union actions under the motto 'Education tailored to the student and their teacher'," the letter concludes.
