(Patria) - Italian Jannik Sinner eliminated Serbian Novak Djokovic this morning and reached the Australian Open final.
Sinner celebrated against the defending champion after 3 hours and 26 minutes of play with a convincing 3-1 victory, with set scores of 6-1, 6-2, 6-7 (8), 6-3.
The Italian, the fourth seed at the Grand Slam in Melbourne, took the first two sets unexpectedly easily with scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
The third set went to a tie-break, in which Sinner had a match point but failed to convert it, allowing the world number one to get back into the match.
However, Djokovic's agony lasted only one more set, which Sinner won 6-3 to secure his first Grand Slam final appearance.
It should also be noted that Sinner was flawless on serve, not allowing the world's best tennis player a single break point throughout the entire match.
The second semi-final is also being played this morning, where Russia's Daniil Medvedev and Germany's Alexander Zverev, of Russian descent, will face each other.
