(Patria) - Tomorrow's session of the House of Peoples of the BiH PA will be closely monitored by 23,000 employees in BiH institutions, and the first item on the agenda is the Bill on Amendments to the Law on Salaries and Benefits in BiH institutions in the first reading, proposed by the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.
These amendments to the law create conditions for employees in institutions, with the exception of elected and appointed officials, to receive increased salaries in accordance with the increased base, regardless of the adopted Budget of BiH institutions for the current year.
Delegate Dženan Đonlagić points out that this is not a political issue but an existential one, so that employees receive their increased salaries. The base has been increased since January 1st of this year, but employees, due to legal restrictions, are still receiving salaries based on the previous base.
"Considering inflation and the rise in prices, and that the value of money is decreasing, the goal is to improve the standard of living for over 20,000 employees, with the note that it does not apply to elected and appointed officials," said Đonlagić.
The unions of state police agencies are calling for the adoption of these amendments.
The President of the Union of the BiH Border Police, Dragan Matović, said that they are only asking for what is rightfully theirs. He announced their presence at tomorrow's session to see the reason for the potential non-adoption of this item.
"We do not see whose interest it is to block this, especially since it concerns 23,000 people," stated Matović.
The unions have scheduled a warning strike for March 31, i.e., a gathering in front of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly building, regardless of whether the amendments to the law are adopted tomorrow or not.
This law was adopted on September 11th in the House of Representatives of the BiH PA at the proposal of the DF Club.
Given that the Budget of BiH institutions for 2026 has not even been proposed yet, employees hope that reason will prevail in the House of Peoples of the BiH PA and that they will support these amendments.
