Union seeks ban on mobile phone use during classes in Sarajevo schools

(Patria) - The Cantonal Board of the Independent Federal Union of Primary Education and Upbringing Sarajevo is requesting from the Government of Sarajevo Canton and the relevant ministry for education and upbringing a systemic ban on the use of mobile phones during regular classes in schools.

The union board expects a systemic resolution of this issue by law, uniformly for all primary schools in the area of Sarajevo Canton. Exceptions to the ban can only be situations where the use of mobile phones is necessary for health, educational, or other justified reasons, the union states.

- The UN agency for education, science and culture has issued a recommendation that mobile phones should be banned in schools. They believe that this would address student inattention during classes, improve learning itself, and help protect children from cyberbullying. With its recommendation, they draw attention to evidence that excessive mobile phone use is linked to reduced educational performance and that screen time negatively affects children's emotional stability - it is stated in the announcement.

The union demands that the use of mobile phones during classes in schools in Sarajevo be banned. The Government of Great Britain has decided to ban the use of mobile phones in schools, including during breaks, because they disrupt classes.

They have noted better quality of education in schools that have banned the use of mobile phones, it is also stated in this union announcement.
