Border Police Union: Once again we witnessed the political humiliation of 23,000 employees in BiH institutions

(Patria) - Today we witnessed yet another political degradation and humiliation of 23,000 employees in BiH institutions, the Border Police Union of BiH stated, after the session of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH was interrupted due to lack of quorum.

Once again, the Union points out, we saw that political and other interests are far above the interests of the people whom elected representatives should represent.

"Today we heard a harsh message from one delegate that 'those they represent are pitiful'. Such words best illustrate the attitude towards employees who perform responsible and demanding jobs every day, often in very complex conditions," the Union states.

They remind that just a few days ago we witnessed the process of the budget not being adopted in the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"Again the same story. We fully understand the right of every person to a dignified personal income and adequate compensation for their work. However, we do not see who, besides ourselves, is fighting for the rights and position of 23,000 employees in BiH institutions.

At the same time, we hear a barrage of criticism regarding the budget increase, as if the problem lies with the employees who honestly do their jobs, and not in the years of neglect of their position.

This topic is deliberately used to score political points, with the public being presented with the idea that the demands of employees are some kind of luxury, rather than a basic right to a dignified life.

That is why we ask a simple question: does anyone think that the budget should be smaller at the expense of employees' salaries? Should police officers, civil servants, inspectors and other employees have lower salaries, worse working conditions and an even more uncertain future so that certain politicians can build their campaigns and collect cheap political points?

It is easy to give speeches, lecture others and run election campaigns with incomes that are many times higher than the salaries of most employees in BiH institutions.

It is much harder to understand the everyday problems of people whose work keeps institutions and the system functioning.

Therefore, fellow employees, think carefully about the upcoming elections. This is not a question of one day, one session or one vote. This is a question of our future, the dignity of work and the bare existence of thousands of employees and their families.

Today has once again shown who is ready to stand by the employees when it is most needed, and who remembers their problems only when they need to give a political speech or collect a few more votes. It is time to remember that," the statement of the Border Police Union of BiH adds.
