Haris Nurkanović was born in 1992 in BiH in Srebrenik, but three years later, while the aggression was raging, he left BiH with his family, reports the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).
Today he is a successful student and basketball player at UTM in Toronto, Canada. He is in his fifth year of a double major in economics and environmental management.
Haris inherited his passion for basketball from his father Rizah Nurkanović, who once played professionally in Europe with KK Sloboda Dita from Tuzla. He spent 20 years in the red-and-black jersey, was captain, and played in leagues from the republican to the first SFRY league.
Nurkanović usually plays center or forward, but as he says, he can play all positions to help his team achieve victory. He often watches his own game to improve what he can, and his basketball role models are Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant.
Coach Juan Nunez states that Nurkanović has a high level of play due to his experience in European basketball.
After graduating, Nurkanović plans to open his own renovation company, and one day his own basketball academy.
Nurkanović is also the captain of the UTM Eagles basketball team. He believes that UTM, being a rejuvenated team, has the chemistry to win the championship this year, and he hopes to win another championship title. He plays basketball every day, and as he says, it helps him move forward, reports Patria.
