Szijjártó after meeting with Dodik: Hungary will vote against the Srebrenica Genocide Resolution

(Patria) - Hungary will vote against the Srebrenica resolution, stated Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó at a press conference after meetings held in Budapest. The President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, is on an official visit to Hungary.

Szijjártó emphasized that the resolution, intentionally or unintentionally, demonizes the entire Serbian people for the tragedy in Srebrenica.

"BiH has made serious progress on the path of European integration. In March, it was decided to start the accession negotiation process with the EU. It is important that all entities and peoples in BiH contribute. The harmony that has been created in BiH and led to agreement on this issue has been shattered by the unilateral action of the illegitimate High Representative who unilaterally amended the Election Law. The adoption of the Srebrenica resolution in the UN, which would lead to the demoralization of the Serbian people, can also shake the stable situation and understanding in BiH. We believe that the escalation of tensions and such intentions should stop," said Szijjártó.

Szijjártó assessed that the means for de-escalating tensions is the accession of the Balkans to the EU.

"We are witnessing that EU decisions lead not so much to the calming of the situation but rather to an increase in tensions in the Western Balkans. We also believe that international political actors should end their activities in BiH, stop threatening with sanctions and interfering in the internal affairs of BiH, and let BiH regain its sovereignty," Szijjártó conveyed.

Szijjártó emphasized that Hungary will soon take over the presidency of the European Union and intends to do everything to contribute to stability and peace in the Western Balkans and in Europe.

Dodik stated that there was no decision within BiH regarding the resolution and that it was an independent act of ambassadors.

"The Presidency, which is responsible for foreign policy, did not make this decision. The Serbian side does not dispute that a terrible crime happened in Srebrenica, but it did not take into account that Serbs also suffered. They persistently claim that it is individual responsibility, and now this resolution appears, and we think that the adoption of this resolution will paralyze relations in BiH," said Dodik.
