SFK 2000 Sarajevo and Stari Grad Municipality to Launch Women's Football League for Primary School Students

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality Ibrahim Hadžibajrić received today representatives of SFK 2000 Sarajevo, the most successful Bosnian women's football club with 17 consecutive BiH championship titles. In addition to the support the Municipality provides to this club, cooperation could be expanded in the future to include the organisation of a women's football league in Stari Grad. As the Stari Grad Municipality has been successfully running football, basketball, volleyball, chess and table tennis leagues for its primary school students for years, today's meeting agreed to launch a women's football league as well. Given the experience, knowledge and incredible successes of this club, SFK will be the main activity holder, with the support of the Municipality.

“There is no better ambassador for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the world than sport. We are aware of that and that is why we invest so much in our children. Through our leagues, true talents who will one day achieve world-class success can already be recognised. We intend to enable the female students of our schools to try their hand at football as well, and together with SFK Sarajevo we will launch a women's football league,” said Hadžibajrić.

On behalf of SFK 2000 Sarajevo, the meeting was attended by Anela Potura, Vice President of the Board, Azra Numanović, General Secretary of the club, and Vildana Imamović, Technical Director. They emphasised that SFK Sarajevo can take on the obligations of organising the league.

“We have long wanted to launch some kind of league and tournament for girls, and this is an excellent idea. Last year we started a training school for girls, which is attended by a large number of girls. All our coaches are educated and hold UEFA licenses,” they said.

Incidentally, this year as well, SFK 2000 Sarajevo will host the group stage tournament of the UEFA Women's Champions League, a major sporting event in Europe. UEFA has recognised the great potential in SFK 2000 Sarajevo, so this club is among the 25 best clubs in Europe.

They emphasised that the support of the local community means a great deal to them, both in their work and in future development plans, which include, among other things, launching a Regional League and opening a fan shop in Sarajevo. For their support in the work of this club, the guests presented Mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić with a symbolic gift, a club jersey with the number 1.
