(Patria) - Exactly six months have passed since the devastating floods that hit Jablanica, Konjic, Fojnica, Kiseljak, and Kreševo on the night of October 4th.
A total of 27 people died (19 in Jablanica, five in Konjic, and three in Fojnica).
That night, in addition to heavy rain, numerous landslides were activated, and the most severe situation was in Donja Jablanica, where 19 people lost their lives.
In addition to human losses, enormous material damage occurred. A section of the railway at the Komadinovo vrelo locality at the entrance to Jablanica was completely destroyed. Due to the interruption of rail traffic, the Federation suffered numerous losses, and the railway was only repaired four months later, thanks to a donation.
The estimated damage amounts to millions, and at the previous session of the House of Representatives of the FBiH Parliament, the mayor of Jablanica, Emir Muratović, stated that the damage in the Municipality of Jablanica alone amounts to approximately 123 million KM.
“We have to allocate about eight million KM for local roads; the damages are huge. Not a single local community was connected to another on October 4th. As for the water supply, everything was broken. We have done a lot since October 4th, and there is still a lot to do. The funds foreseen by the FBiH Government's proposal of 50 million KM are promising for us. We need to repair roads, lighting, and water supply systems; we faced the danger of the city running out of water,” said Muratović.
Immediately after the floods, the Prosecutor's Office of HNK and the Prosecutor's Office of SBK opened cases related to the deaths of 27 people in these cantons.
While the Prosecutor's Office of SBK decided not to conduct an investigation, the Prosecutor's Office of HNK has been stagnant for months.
Autopsies previously determined that the cause of death for most of the victims was suffocation by soil and similar content.
Although the Prosecutor's Office of HNK announced that the key finding that would determine the course of the investigation would arrive by the end of February, this did not happen.
Residents continue to monitor the weather forecast with fear and state that the FBiH Government has done nothing for them.
We remind you that the informal student group "Hoćel' ta promjena" (Will there be a change) will hold protests on Wednesday, April 9th, in front of the FBiH Government building between 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM.
As stated in their announcement, the FBiH Government has not responded to their demands, no one has been held accountable for the existence of the quarry, nor for the deaths of 27 people.
