Senadin Lavić re-elected President of "Preporod"

Senadin Lavić, a professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo, has been re-elected President of the Bosniak Cultural Community "Preporod", at the Constituent Assembly of Preporod, held on Saturday, reports the BH news agency Patria (NAP)

Delegates voted between the former president, Dr. Senadin Lavić, and Dr. Selma Rizvić. 71 members of the Assembly voted for Lavić, and 22 members for Selma Rizvić.

Professor Lavić was born in 1965 in Konjic. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Sarajevo (Department of Philosophy and Sociology) in 1989. He was elected associate professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences in 2008. He has published two books: Pluralistic Rationality (Sarajevo, 2004) and Between the Periphery and the Center (Sarajevo, 2006), as well as numerous scientific and professional papers at home and abroad.

He is the editor-in-chief of the university journal "Pregled" and a member of the editorial board of the journal "Godišnjak" of BZK Preporod.

Lavić was elected president of Preporod in 2010, after Professor Šaćir Filandra left the position upon completing two four-year terms.

The Bosniak Cultural Community "Preporod" is one of the most important institutions responsible for the enlightenment, education, and cultural advancement of Bosniaks in BiH and beyond its borders, and it has existed for 110 years.

Preporod traces its roots back to 1903. The society "Gajret" was originally founded to support Muslim students in secondary and higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Safvet-beg Bašagić was elected the first president of "Gajret".

Later, in 1923, the Muslim Cultural and Educational Society "Narodna uzdanica" was established in Sarajevo, which had different influences than "Gajret" but the same goals - the enlightenment, education, and cultural advancement of Bosniaks, after which these two associations merged.

The founding assembly of the society under the name "Preporod" was held on September 13, 1945. Zaim Šarac was then elected president, writes Patria.
