(Patria) - The joint candidate of SDA and NES for the mayor of Sarajevo's Old Town Municipality, Dženan Selimbegović, who is also supported by the Party for BiH, presented his election program today.
Early elections for the mayor of Old Town will be held on October 29, and Selimbegović's opponent is Irfan Čengić (SDP), who is supported by the Trojka, SBB, and DF. The mayoral elections are being held after the recall of Ibrahim Hadžibajrić.
- This is a political match between two concepts, one pretentiously called the "Sarajevo Agreement," which ends three years later with the dismissal of the mayor of Old Town, the initiation of the dismissal process of another joint candidate Srđan Mandić, lack of council support in Novi Grad, and all this time projects remain unrealized in those municipalities, garbage is not collected.
The second concept is gathered around my candidacy. Our concept is that we know what we want, with whom we want, or rather, with whom we don't want, and we know how to do it - said Selimbegović, writes Faktor.
He presented the program for the period from 2023 to 2028, and not just for the one year the new mayor's term will be, because, as Selimbegović said, "whoever wins the early elections will participate in the regular elections next year".
Selimbegović promised to eradicate corruption in the municipal administration and put the Municipality's resources at the service of the citizens.
He announced the formation of a public company that will manage public parking lots, and he promised clean streets, regular public transport lines, and a children's park in every local community from that revenue.
- These revenues have been redirected to private pockets in the past period through lease agreements for symbolic rents.
We will return public parking lots under the jurisdiction of the Municipality and generate, according to estimates, three to four million KM annually - said Selimbegović.
He promised support for old crafts and the economy, that Baščaršija will regain its splendor and that old crafts will be protected.
He also stated that they plan to establish a business incubator and a department for supporting craftsmen and the economy, where they will pay special attention to enabling entrepreneurs to train for proposing projects to EU funds.
He also spoke about infrastructure and sewage, announcing the construction of a bridge between the settlements of Mahmutovac and Jarčedoli, the construction of a promenade along the Miljacka from Drvenija past the "Papagajka" building to the Šeher-ćehajina bridge, the construction of a multifunctional sports hall, a stadium in Mošćanica, the reconstruction of the pool in Bentbaša, the protection of picnic areas such as Barice, as well as the Popov Gaj nature park, which will be arranged in the style of the "Safet Zajko" Center in the municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo. He announced a garage in the local community of Mjedenica.
Selimbegović also emphasized the work on enabling the legalization of illegally built structures for citizens.
He also announced improved school security, student scholarships, and the introduction of a project to cover excursion costs for final-year primary school students.
He promised special care for pensioners through, among other things, one-time assistance, organizing trips and excursions, as well as scholarships for students in need. He said that attention would also be paid to the Service for Veterans' Affairs, as well as the renovation of memorial sites.
Areas of culture and sports were also given a special place in his program, where he promised support for cultural and artistic societies and local clubs, and announced the establishment of a fund for excellence in sports and a project for the digitalization of cultural materials.
He also spoke about the protection of family values and the promotion of the traditional family. In contrast to, as he said, Pride Month, he announced the "Month of Family" project, which he believes will become traditional.
- We will organize a traditional "Month of Family" in Old Town, which will be a place for promoting traditional family values - added Selimbegović.
He said that they intend to exempt young married couples from wedding costs, provide benefits for each newborn child, and support housing.
He told the citizens-voters that they are choosing the head of the governing body and that they are his employers, and that as employers, they are obliged to approach this responsibly because they are choosing a person "who will manage your money".
- Ask for the references of the candidate you are choosing - added Selimbegović.
