(Patria) - Candidate for the mayor of the Sarajevo municipality of Stari Grad, Dženan Selimbegović, addressed the public today after the voting concluded.
Selimbegović congratulated his opponent Irfan Čengić on his victory and thanked the citizens who turned out to vote, especially those who supported him.
– We did not use any manifestations prohibited by law. We still have work to do. Čengić and I agreed on coffee before the elections, and we need to offer citizens a platform regardless of our differences. We will not be an obstacle. I was a new face for the voters, and we knew that could be an insurmountable advantage in elections – Selimbegović said.
He added that this does not mean they should have given up.
– Thank you to SDA, NES, and the Party for BiH for their support. The projections looked insurmountable, but the result showed that we have nothing to be ashamed of. We had little time. Regarding the upcoming Local Elections in less than a year, we will analyze the results and make a decision about the next elections – Selimbegović said, among other things.
SDA Presidency member Haris Zahiragić said that Čengić is, by all accounts, the winner of the early elections for the mayor of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo. He pointed out that there were certain irregularities.
But according to the data we have, that would not change the outcome of the elections. Not all votes have been counted, but based on a sample of about 9,000 votes, I think the difference is insurmountable. SDA Stari Grad is in the Trusteeship, and I think we can be proud of the result.
Mr. Selimbegović entered the campaign for the first time and achieved what we expected, reaching a sufficient number of people. The first polls indicated 90 percent for Čengić, and we reached 60 to 40 percent – Zahiragić said.
