OSCE Mission Chief concludes two-day visit to Banja Luka, regrets being ignored by Karan

(Patria) - The Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Rick Holtzapple, has concluded a two-day visit to Banja Luka, reaffirming the Mission's commitment to constructive engagement with institutions, political actors, the academic community, civil society, and religious communities in Republika Srpska.

During meetings with Draško Stanivuković, Mayor of Banja Luka; Srđan Mazalica, Head of the SNSD Caucus in the National Assembly of Republika Srpska (NSRS); Igor Crnadak, Head of the PDP Caucus in the NSRS; Petar Đokić, President of the Socialist Party; Branko Blanuša, SDS candidate for the President of RS; Bishop Jefrem of Banja Luka, and Bishop Željko Majić of Banja Luka, Ambassador Holtzapple emphasized the importance of maintaining open dialogue, respecting the rule of law, and supporting democratic processes in the period following the early presidential elections on November 23. The interlocutors exchanged views on post-election dynamics, priorities, and opportunities for continued cooperation and strengthening interreligious dialogue.

Ambassador Holtzapple expressed regret that Siniša Karan, the SNSD candidate for the President of RS, was not available for a meeting during this visit.

Ambassador Holtzapple also visited the University of Banja Luka, where he met with Rector Radoslav Gajanin and spoke with students as part of his lecture on: “Next Generation Perspectives: Why the OSCE Mission Still Matters in BiH?”

The discussions highlighted the role of youth in shaping a democratic, stable, and inclusive future for the country.

The Ambassador welcomed the de-escalation of political tensions and stressed that credible, functional institutions are key to serving citizens and advancing stability and progress in BiH.

During all meetings, the Head of Mission emphasized that the OSCE Mission acts as a principled, impartial, and long-term partner. He highlighted the Mission's readiness to support dialogue, confidence-building, and technical assistance within the constitutional and legal framework of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
