
(Patria) - Sead Turčalo today took over the position of Dean at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo. Until today, the position of Dean was held for two terms by Šaćir Filandra.
Sead Turčalo is an associate professor at the Department of Security and Peace Studies. He was born in 1978 in Sarajevo. He defended his doctoral dissertation “Realistic Theory of International Relations in the Interpretation of Critical Geopolitics” on June 16, 2014, at the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Sarajevo. In the first and second cycles of the Security and Peace Studies and Political Science departments, he teaches courses on Geopolitics, International Security, and Energy Security and Conflict Management in International Relations. At the interdisciplinary doctoral study of the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Sarajevo, he is a lecturer on the course Geopolitical Studies of the Contemporary World. He has held guest lectures at Sciences Po Paris, Sciences Po Dijon, Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, and the International Institute of Social Studies in The Hague.
He is a regular participant in domestic and international scientific conferences. As a researcher, lead researcher, or coordinator, he has participated in 15 international and national research projects. He has published five books and four studies, as well as about thirty papers in reference journals and proceedings.
He attended the Leadership Academy for Development organized by the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law at Stanford University, and the Diploma in Islamic Sciences program at the Faculty of Islamic Sciences.
Turčalo is the vice-president of the non-governmental organization Atlantic Initiative. He is engaged as a consultant for a number of domestic and international organizations such as OSCE, IOM (International Organization for Migration), IRI (International Republican Institute), the Directorate for Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, etc. He is engaged as a reviewer of projects for the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research.
He was a member of the editorial board of the Yearbook of the Faculty of Political Sciences. From 2012 to 2015, he edited the journal “Sarajevo Journal of Social Sciences” published by the Faculty of Political Sciences. He is the executive editor of the bilingual reference professional journal “Democracy and Security in Southeast Europe” published by the non-governmental organization “Atlantic Initiative” from Sarajevo, and a member of the editorial board of the journal “European Quarterly of Political Attitudes and Mentalities.”
Among professional associations, he is a member of The International Studies Association and The American Political Science Association.
