SDA Stari Grad: Residents of Širokača Threatened by Landslide Deserve Housing Worthy of a Human Being

(Patria) - The SDA Club in the Stari Grad Municipal Council submitted an initiative today aimed at finding a solution for the adequate accommodation of families threatened by a landslide in the area of the Local Community Širokača.

"The accommodation options offered so far have been rightly rejected, because the collective accommodation in the municipality of Novi Grad, offered by the authorities, is unacceptable and insults the dignity of our fellow citizens whose homes were on the front lines of defense during the aggression against our city and homeland.

Therefore, with this initiative, we demand from the authorities in the Municipality of Stari Grad to make available apartments at the Municipality's disposal to solve this problem in which our fellow citizens have found themselves.

This primarily refers to ten apartments that were supposed to be allocated this year, but the allocation was postponed until their renovation is completed, but also to other apartments at the Municipality's disposal, which implies a revision of already allocated apartments where there have been suspicions of certain abuses during their allocation for years.

We appeal to our colleagues in the Municipal Council to support this initiative. We ask the Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality to proceed with its implementation as soon as possible after the adoption of the initiative, because time is running out for the affected families," stated the SDA Stari Grad.

"The Club of SDA Councilors in the Stari Grad Municipal Council submits an initiative with the aim of urgently resolving the housing issue of families from the Širokača locality, who are threatened by a landslide.

We emphasize that the only acceptable solution is to relocate the families to individual housing units, and by no means collective accommodation, and exclusively within the area of the Stari Grad Municipality.

Therefore, we hereby submit an initiative to allocate municipal apartments to the most affected families.

We remind that in July, the Commission for Apartments was convened, with the allocation of ten apartments owned by the Municipality on the agenda. However, the session was soon canceled with the explanation that apartment renovations were needed.

We believe that enough time has passed since then to carry out the necessary renovations, thereby making the apartments ready for occupancy and putting them into function for accommodating the most affected families from the landslide-threatened area.

In addition, to instruct the competent municipal services and bodies to submit, within the shortest possible time, complete information on which apartments the Municipality has at its disposal.

The information should be submitted in a tabular overview of all municipal apartments with address, square footage, and their condition - whether they are habitable or devastated, and if so, to what percentage.

The request refers to all apartments owned by the municipality, both those that are vacant and those that are leased, so that a revision can be carried out, all with the aim of enabling as large a housing stock as possible for the purpose of accommodating families threatened by the landslide.

Given the seriousness of the situation, we appeal to you to implement this initiative as soon as possible, bearing in mind the safety and dignity of the affected families," the submitted initiative states.
