SDA Stari Grad: We call on high school student Čengić to resign as mayor

The university diploma of the Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality Sarajevo, Irfan Čengić, has been declared invalid. Namely, the rector of the University for Business Engineering and Management Banja Luka announced in the Official Gazette of Republika Srpska in mid-May an announcement

SDA Stari Grad emphasizes that they warned about the questionable nature of Čengić's diploma in a timely manner – during the election campaign.

"Unfortunately, despite this, Irfan Čengić was elected as the head of the Stari Grad Municipality with an now invalid diploma from the obscure PIM university from Banja Luka, against whose management and teaching staff an indictment by the BiH Prosecutor's Office has been confirmed.

The decision to annul Čengić's diploma was published on 07.05.2025, but Irfan Čengić avoided informing the public about it himself, and we only found out after the media obtained that information.

This proves that Irfan Čengić knowingly misled voters by claiming to have a regularly completed university degree, while also, completely knowingly, avoiding for years to specify which exact faculty he graduated from, and in his biography, he falsely stated that he graduated from the University of Sarajevo.

Obtaining a diploma in this manner says a lot about the moral and ethical standards of Mayor Čengić, and as such, he is simply not worthy of the position of Mayor of Stari Grad.

After the information about the annulment of Čengić's diploma was published, he immediately began to relativize such a decision and pretentiously started drawing parallels between himself and the Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu.

Admittedly, Čengić has some other similarities with İmamoğlu, besides the annulled diploma, such as the tendency for him and his associates to launder dirty money through the realization of projects, like the suspicious construction of Barice, or rigging tender jobs, like the suspicious procurement of computer equipment or the reconstruction of a children's playground in Medreset.

Regarding these matters, in Čengić's case, the judicial authorities will still have to make appropriate decisions.

We call on the forger and high school student Irfan Čengić to resign from the position of Mayor of Stari Grad and spare our local community his private machinations and scandals," stated SDA Stari Grad Sarajevo.
