MOSTAR, (Patria) - Public attention has rightly been focused these days on the Aluminij plant in Mostar, where production was halted after being disconnected from the power grid due to the company's huge debts. The public of Mostar and Bosnia and Herzegovina is particularly interested in the fate of the employees of Aluminij, especially after their protests and open accusations of committed crimes, it was announced from the City Committee of SDA Mostar.
"We hope that the rule of law will finally come to life in this company as well and investigate how the debts were incurred, who is responsible for it and whether there is any crime in all of this. We certainly support the protection of the interests of the current workers of the Aluminij plant, but at the same time we call on the competent authorities and the public not to approach the entire problem selectively, because the problem does not only affect the current workers of this company, but also hundreds of others whose jobs have been practically taken away for years, and solely on the basis of ethnicity. The endangered current employees of Aluminij have only been in trouble for the last few days, while their laid-off colleagues, mostly Bosniaks and Serbs, have been living with this problem for decades.
Therefore, we call on all competent authorities and the Government of the Federation of BiH to, in their efforts to find a solution for the Aluminij plant in Mostar, necessarily and without any further delay, include the issue of unfairly laid-off Bosniak and Serb workers, whose basic human rights have been trampled on for years. The definitive closure of the Aluminij plant in Mostar would be an economic catastrophe, but an even greater catastrophe would be if the former workers, after decades of injustice and discrimination, actually became the only real losers," it was announced from the City Committee of SDA Mostar.
