Schmidt with Merz: New German government will closely cooperate with the OHR

(Patria) - The High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schmidt held a constructive informal meeting with Friedrich Merz, the designate for the Federal Chancellor of Germany.

The conversation focused on the current political and security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as broader developments in the Western Balkan region, according to a post by the OHR on social network X.

The interlocutors share a common long-standing stance that transatlantic relations and European integration remain of great importance.

The High Representative pointed to recent challenges regarding the stability and functionality of state institutions coming from the ruling coalition in RS and reiterated the importance of respecting the Dayton Peace Agreement and preserving the integrity of state institutions.

The High Representative emphasized the need for continued international engagement in support of reforms and democratic consolidation.

"Although the meeting was more oriented towards future cooperation and informal in nature, it can be counted on that the new German government under Merz's leadership will closely cooperate with the wider international community, including the Office of the High Representative, with the aim of ensuring peace, stability, and progress in Bosnia and Herzegovina," said Schmidt.
