SBiH: Political parties have turned utility companies into prey

(Patria) - The Cantonal Board of the Party for BiH Sarajevo has given full support to the Trade Union of Utility Companies in their fight to save the utility system in the Sarajevo Canton.

According to them, the trade union's press conference clearly showed the real situation in utility companies, where irresponsible management, systematic violation of workers' rights, lack of basic resources, and strong political influence dominate.

"Utility companies have become prey for political parties, and this prey is being plundered through management structures. The services they provide are becoming weaker and weaker, and the prices are getting higher and higher," stated the Party for BiH.

According to their statements, business losses of the companies have reached a historic level, and instead of management and administrations bearing responsibility, the authorities are trying to shift the burden onto citizens by increasing service prices.

The Party for BiH warns that instead of reorganization and accountability, trade unions and workers are being silenced, while management is engaged in "monitoring workers on social networks instead of solving key problems, such as waste collection or maintenance of the water supply network".

"The authorities, intoxicated by their own 'successes', do not want to hear the trade unions. If they had wanted to hear them, the utility companies would not have been brought to a state of despair and ruin," stated the Party for BiH Sarajevo, reminding that they have warned for years about political interference in management, and that an increase in utility service prices does not mean better service, but only patching up losses.
