(Patria) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić met today in Belgrade with Milorad Dodik, who is traveling to Moscow tomorrow where he is expected to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
"A brotherly meeting with President Dodik and a discussion on all important regional issues. We continue next Sunday," Vučić wrote on Instagram.
Dodik announced that he will ask Russia to veto the extension of the Althea - Eufor mission at the UN Security Council session when the extension is considered. That session is expected to take place at the beginning of November.
On the other hand, after the conviction and the calling of early elections for the President of Republika Srpska, Dodik also announced that he will seek Russia's support for the independence of Republika Srpska and that a referendum will be held on that issue. A referendum on Dodik's conviction is scheduled for the end of October, and early elections for November 23.
Although Dodik has been stripped of his mandate as President of Republika Srpska, he refuses to step down from the position, and the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is responsible for enforcing the criminal sanction, has not yet reacted. Dodik bought off the one-year prison sentence, thereby acknowledging the verdict.
A few days ago, Vučić also met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and they discussed mutual cooperation and the economy, energy issues, and Serbia's position.
