Širokača Local Community Council Warns: We Demand Urgent Field Action and Landslide Remediation, We Do Not Want to Experience a Disaster

(Patria) - The Širokača Local Community Council issued an urgent appeal today due to the catastrophic situation at the Curine njive site (Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad and Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo – Bostarići).

"On the ground, serious geological processes are underway, regularly recorded by the competent services: Formation and expansion of cracks and stable soil movement — the result of constant terrain destabilization.

Stagnation and infiltration of water from drainage and underground sources, along with erosion and a landslide threatening to collapse onto residential buildings in Ablakovina and Ablakovina čikma streets.

The Municipal Civil Protection Service continuously monitors the terrain, but without concrete works, the danger increases ahead of autumn and winter — a period of increased precipitation.

The Širokača Local Community Council reminds: we have constantly warned that adequate drainage has not been carried out and that activities lack sufficient expertise and speed. Residents live in fear every day, expecting the situation to worsen with every rainy night.

We call on all competent institutions — the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, the Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad, the Sarajevo Canton, the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Government of Republika Srpska — for an urgent, coordinated field action:

Immediately begin landslide remediation, and do not remain in offices - responsibility must be confirmed through work on the ground.

Initiate public procurement, engage machinery and experts, establish work teams for excavation, stabilization, and drainage. It is necessary to protect the population through temporary evacuation and accommodation of affected families. Ensure a clear plan and deadlines, transparent and concrete steps must be known to all. Enhanced supervision and monitoring, with public reporting on the progress of works.

We do not want administration and meetings, but concrete field work — before affected residents use the word "disaster" in everyday conversation, the statement from the Širokača Local Community Council says.

According to the report of the Cantonal Civil Protection Administration of Sarajevo Canton for the past 24 hours, changes have been observed at the Curine njive site.
