Šarkić: We will carefully check Crnkić's allegations

Arman Šarkić, spokesperson for the Public Institution Sarajevo Canton Health Center, told the BH News Agency Patria (NAP) that the Sarajevo Canton Health Centers will not take any action against doctors accused by the Health Insurance Fund of abuse of position by excessively prescribing medications, until an investigation into the case is conducted.

- We must hear the other side as well, so we will thoroughly check this information, after which the Public Institution Sarajevo Canton Health Center will decide how to proceed with these doctors – Šarkić told NAP.

Interestingly, the director of the Vogosća Health Center, Dr. Safet Omerspahić, when asked by NAP journalists what specific measures he would take against doctors from the Vogosća Health Center, whom experts from the Sarajevo Canton Health Insurance Fund discovered had prescribed 751 prescriptions and examined 244 patients in a single day, said that he was hearing about this case for the first time.

The Sarajevo Canton Health Insurance Fund announced at today's press conference the initials of three family medicine doctors who, during a single day, January 16th, prescribed approximately 700 prescriptions each and reported examining approximately 200 patients on the same day.

All evidence against these doctors, the Fund announced, has been sent to the health centers where these doctors work.

This is the first phase of anti-corruption action in public healthcare in the Sarajevo Canton, which the Fund launched two weeks ago. The loss in the Sarajevo Canton Health Insurance Fund last year amounted to about 14 million marks, and the prescribing of medications alone exceeded the planned amount by 7.5 million KM.
