Sarajevo man Mirza Čengić reported to clinic with pain on left side of body, died 20 minutes after being discharged

(Patria) - Mirza Čengić, a 35-year-old citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who complained to colleagues at work on April 17th about numbness in his arm and left side of his body, died less than 20 minutes after his blood pressure was measured at the Zadar County Emergency Medicine Institute (ZHMZŽ), they assessed that he was not in vital danger and did not require urgent hospital treatment, and advised him to see a doctor if his condition did not improve after the weekend.

Acting director of ZHMZŽ, Mladen Oluić, confirms that he is aware of the case and says that an internal expert review of the actions of the employees of the Zadar County Emergency Medicine Institute has been initiated immediately upon learning of the case, Zadarski List reports.

Given that the review process is ongoing, we are unable to provide detailed information about the circumstances of the event or any preliminary findings at this time. The public will be informed of all relevant facts in a timely manner upon completion of the review - Oluić said.

I emphasize that it is in the Institute's interest to fully and objectively determine all the circumstances of this event and to act in accordance with current medical standards and regulations - he added.

Mirza, a man from Sarajevo who found seasonal work in Ražanac, complained to colleagues in a restaurant around four in the afternoon on April 17th about numbness in his arm and the left side of his body, after which two colleagues took him to the emergency room. However, instead of going to the Unified Hospital Emergency Department of Zadar General Hospital, the navigation led the three young men – two from Sarajevo and one from Slavonia – to the ground floor of the Polyclinic, to the Zadar County Emergency Medicine Institute.

There, according to what Mirza told a friend after the examination, they measured his blood pressure and told him to report to the local clinic on Monday if he didn't feel better. However, less than 20 minutes after they left for Ražanac, not far from the Tri Bartola gas station, Mirza's heart stopped beating. First his friends, then emergency medical personnel unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate him for an hour, and according to friends, the same doctor who admitted Mirza to the Polyclinic responded to the intervention when the ambulance was called.

The report, which was provided to Zadarski List and signed by Dr. med. Borna Škibola, states that the patient was examined at 4:37 PM. The diagnosis listed is essential (primary) hypertension, in other words, high blood pressure, and the medical history states that the patient came due to high blood pressure values and denies any complaints. The conclusion reads: "Home. In case of deterioration, call 194."

Mirza, whom friends from Ražanac describe as always smiling and positive, was bid farewell forever by his family and friends on Thursday, April 23rd, at 2:30 PM, and his bosses, colleagues, and friends from Ražanac traveled to Sarajevo for his funeral.
