Sarajevo humanitarian before departure of aid to Gaza: The success of the flotilla depends on the support of the whole world

(Patria) - The Movement towards Gaza stated at today's press conference in Sarajevo that the scale of destruction in Gaza must remain in the focus of the public and media.

- More than 64 thousand Palestinians have been killed since October 7, 2023, including more than 19 thousand children. A large number of journalists have died reporting, trying to awaken the conscience and humanity in all of us to react to the horrors that are happening - said one of the representatives of the Movement towards Gaza, Maida Zagorac.

During the press conference, humanitarian and activist from Sarajevo, Boris Vitlačil, who is in Italy, joined live. He is there with participants of the global Sumud Flotilla, finalizing preparations for departure to Gaza. Part of the flotilla has already departed from Spain, and Vitlačil will join the group setting sail from Sicily.

- The success of the flotilla depends on the support we receive from around the world. We are a small group of citizens who have decided to try to break through the humanitarian corridor, but every day we see more and more people around the world getting involved.

We had port workers in Genoa who said they would block all ports if we lost contact with them, students are announcing they will block schools, we have a ship from Ireland that will provide legal support - said Vitlačil.

He points out that more than 400 tons of humanitarian aid have been collected in Genoa, which the flotilla is supposed to carry to Gaza, although the initial goal was 30.

- We cannot carry all of it with us, but this is an operation to open a humanitarian corridor and for humanitarian organizations, which are much more organized, to start entering Gaza - states Vitlačil.

He also shared a personal experience from the preparations.

- I met some people who tried to save us during the war here, and now they are trying to save lives in Gaza again. I also have another Bosnian, originally from Brčko, but now living in Germany.

Unfortunately, he is not with me at the moment because we are divided into two groups - mine finished training this morning, his is currently training on the open sea. I hope we will report together in one of the next updates. And Vučko is here as our regional representative - says Vitlačil.

The Movement towards Gaza stated that the flotilla's message is clear - when the world is silent - they set sail.

- The flotilla is not a military act, but a non-violent action of solidarity in accordance with international humanitarian law. The goal is not conflict, but opening a humanitarian corridor and paying tribute to the dignity of civilians in Gaza - it was emphasized by the Movement.
