SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The play „Looking for Europe“ by French writer and philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy will be performed on May 13 at the National Theatre in Sarajevo, as part of a large tour of 20 European cities that Lévy is visiting before the European Parliament elections from May 23 to 26, reports the Patria agency.
Instead of 19:30, as originally planned, the performance will begin at 21:15. It was announced that Bernard-Henri Lévy, respecting the fact that it is the month of Ramadan and the needs of Muslim believers, is moving the performance to a time after iftar, i.e., after the breaking of the daily fast.
„Looking for Europe“ is a monologue of an intellectual that takes place in a hotel room in Sarajevo, in which Lévy calls for democratic resistance and the revival of hope in the weeks before the European elections.
The text of „Looking for Europe“ was written and adapted to the political situation and current events in each of the 20 cities where the play is performed.
The play will be performed in French with electronic subtitles in the language of the host country.
French philosopher, writer and journalist Bernard-Henri Lévy is one of the most influential and engaged intellectuals of today. His strong views on politicians and social events, his criticism of nationalism and populism, provoke reactions, and often controversies, around the world. He was particularly engaged in stopping the bloodshed in the Balkans, and was one of the first world intellectuals to come to Sarajevo in 1992, a city held under siege by the Serbian army. He was among the first to call for Western military intervention to stop the destruction of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its people.
Lévy walks through Europe with his play and sends a clear message that Europe must not betray itself in the 21st century „as it did in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the beginning and end of the 20th century.“
With a manifesto written by Levy at the beginning of January this year, which was signed by 29 other world-renowned writers, the French philosopher warns that Europe is in danger and that it is now necessary to fight for the idea of Europe before it disappears in waves of populism.
