SARAJEVO: European Cadet Judo Championships concluded with team competition

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The last day of the European Cadet Judo Championships Sarajevo 2018 was reserved for the team competition, in which the Russian national team ultimately won the gold, defeating the Netherlands 5:3 in the final.

Bronze medals went to the national teams of Turkey and Romania. In the first match for third place, Romania defeated France 5:4, while Turkey beat Hungary by the same score, after Hungary had eliminated our selection in the first round.

The Russians thus added the brightest medal in the team competition to their excellent performance in the individual part of the championship, where they won seven gold, three silver and one bronze medal.

The final block of the last competition day of the continental championship was preceded by the flag-lowering ceremony of the European Judo Union (EJU). The President of the Judo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Branislav Crnogorac, handed the EJU flag to its president, Sergey Soloveychik, who then passed it into the hands of Jacek Zawadka, President of the Polish Judo Federation, which will host the European Cadet Judo Championships in 2019.

Although everyone in the Judo Federation of BiH had hoped for at least one medal at the competition, they ultimately had to settle for Božidar Vučurević's fifth place in the category up to 81 kilograms. Vučurević's fifth place is the best result of a BiH judoka, while Igor Vračar in the competition of judokas over 90 kilograms took seventh place.

The national federation of our country once again showed that it can successfully organize major events, such as the European Cadet Championships. During four competition days at the Olympic Hall "Juan Antonio Samaranch", 457 judokas represented 42 countries, and the Judo Federation of BiH received high marks for the organization from the EJU leadership, led by the aforementioned President Sergey Soloveychik.
