Sarajevo: Renovated Staircase in Pruščak Street Officially Opened

In the presence of a large number of guests, the Mayor of the Centar Municipality, Dževad Bećirević, symbolically marked the completion of the landslide remediation and reconstruction of the staircase in Pruščak Street (Local Community ''Trg oslobođenja-Centar'') by playing a composition on the installed audio device and making the first move on the chessboard, it was announced from the Centar Municipality, as reported by the Patria news agency. 

In his address to those present, Bećirević said that during the opening of the renovated staircase in Kaptol two years ago, he had announced the opening of two staircases in Veliki Park and Pruščak Street.  –Today, with this staircase, we have fulfilled our promise and provided our citizens not only with a staircase but also with a beautiful facility that will remain for future generations. Since we had to carry out landslide remediation at this location, we decided, as befits the Centar Municipality and the citizens who live here, to build such a representative facility.

With this staircase, a new recognizable place has been created, a new „Čeka“ and „Slatko ćoše“ ... A new meeting place, a place for acquaintances and love has been built, and I see that it has already become recognizable for its uniqueness, Bećirević said in his address to those present.

The project in Pruščak Street was financed by the Centar Municipality, which allocated nearly 700,000 KM from its budget for this purpose, while the Institute for Construction of the Sarajevo Canton was the project implementer and supervisor, and the construction company „Harysco“ d.o.o. Sarajevo was engaged as the contractor.

According to the conceptual design prepared by the architectural studio ''Firma'', which was also responsible for architectural supervision during the landslide remediation and staircase reconstruction, since March 2015 when the project began,  the entire drainage system infrastructure was first replaced, including the water supply network with connections to surrounding residential buildings, as well as the sewage and stormwater drainage. Then a new reinforced concrete staircase was built, on which stone slabs and granite cubes were placed. After that, new street lighting poles, handrails, cast-iron benches, and specially designed waste bins were installed.

Given the ambient ensemble of the staircase, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the iconic gathering place ''Sloga'' and the Chess Club ''Bosna'', the aforementioned architectural studio, during the preparation of the project documentation, envisioned that each landing would be thematically linked to the most famous musical performers or groups that marked the golden period of ''Sloga'', meaning that on each bench on the landing, a short biography of the selected musicians is placed, along with special audio devices through which passersby will be able to listen to the most famous songs of Indexi, Bijelo dugme, the group Merlin and Pro Arte, as well as representatives of the New Primitives movement and Rock Under Siege, the vocal ensemble Prijatelji....

At the landing near the Chess Club ''Bosna'', a table with chess pieces has been set up where passersby can enjoy this ancient game, the statement reads.
