Sarajevo: Protest march on International Women's Day

(Patria) - On the occasion of March 8, International Women's Day, a protest march is being held in Sarajevo today under the slogan: "Women's safety is a public obligation. A state that does not intervene – condones violence."

Participants gathered at the Trade Union Hall, from where a protest walk to the Historical Museum was planned.

Jadranka Miličević from the "Cure" Foundation stated that the goal of the march is to draw attention to the unequal position of women in BiH and the rise in violence, and to remind institutions and authorities to actively work to protect women's rights.

Enida Glušac from the "Renesansa" association stated that every woman is happy when she receives a rose or some other token of attention for March 8, but that dignity, respect, and genuine care for women's rights are what must exist throughout the year.

"Equality without safety does not exist, and women's safety is the basic indicator of the value of human rights," the organizers stated.
