Sarajevo: From tomorrow, direct control of water "thieves"

Operational technical teams of KJKP "Vodovod i kanalizacija" will start direct control of water consumption of legal entities, catering facilities and car washes where analysis of bills has shown disputed water use, concluded today's working meeting of the Team for monitoring the reduction of debts for supplied and consumed water for legal entities and monitoring the reduction and removal of illegal connections to the water supply and sewage network of KJKP "Vodovod i kanalizacija", which was earlier formed by the Government of Sarajevo Canton, reports the Patria news agency.

 

-Representatives of the Ministry of Communal Economy and Infrastructure and the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs will urgently submit proposals for amendments to the Law on Communal Activities and the Ordinance on General Conditions for the Supply of Drinking Water, Treatment and Disposal of Waste and Atmospheric Waters with the aim of giving exclusive authority to cantonal inspectors to carry out the procedure of disconnecting non-payers and illegal water users and significantly increase penalties for perpetrators of such acts, ordered Prime Minister Elmedin Konaković on this occasion, and announced that the Government would amend the said law by the end of this week and forward it to the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton for consideration and adoption under an urgent procedure.

At today's meeting, the management and their repair teams, of which there are currently eight working in KJKP "Vodovod i kanalizacija", were also instructed to further intensify work on repairing the largest registered faults, in order to further increase the water capacity in the water supply network.

At the same time, the management of this company is tasked with urgently establishing contacts and agreeing on coordinated joint field work between KJKP "Vodovod i kanalizacija" and KJKP "Rad" for the use of their machinery and employees in the rehabilitation of the network, whose engagement would further contribute to increasing the number of repaired faults, announced the Government of Sarajevo Canton.
