Sarajevo is a true magnet for visitors: In the first five months of 2026, it hosted 286,000 tourists, most from Turkey, Croatia, and China

(Patria) - Sarajevo Canton (SC) continues to record a positive tourism trend in 2026, the SC Tourist Board announced this morning on its Facebook page.

In the period January - May 2026, Sarajevo was visited by 286,288 tourists, representing a growth of 3.6% compared to the same period last year.

An even more significant indicator is the number of overnight stays, which reached 717,366, an increase of as much as 13% compared to the first five months of 2025.

Particularly encouraging is the growth of foreign overnight stays by 10.5%, while domestic overnight stays recorded an increase of as much as 30.4%, confirming Sarajevo's attractiveness among domestic and international guests.

In May 2026 alone, Sarajevo Canton was visited by 80,123 tourists who achieved 169,346 overnight stays.

Most foreign guests arrived from Turkey, Croatia, China, Serbia, Slovenia, Germany, the United States, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Montenegro.

President of the SC Tourist Board Haris Fazlagić says that the continuous growth of tourist traffic confirms that Sarajevo is strengthening its position on the international tourism map year after year.

- We are especially pleased by the fact that we are recording positive trends throughout the year, not just at the peak of the season.

The growth of 13 percent in the number of overnight stays during the first five months shows that promotional activities, development of the tourist offer, and support for projects have yielded concrete results.

We expect the upcoming summer season to be the most successful so far, with a large number of events, direct flight routes, and rich content that Sarajevo and Sarajevo Canton offer to their guests - Fazlagić stated.
