
(Patria) - Sarajevo is once again one of the most polluted cities in the world this morning, and according to IQAir measurements at 7:30 AM, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina ranked first among cities where measurements are taken, with an air quality index labeled as "hazardous."
Last night as well, the air in Sarajevo was extremely polluted, and the IQAir website, which monitors air quality in cities worldwide, also dedicated a special article to pollution in the capital of BiH.
On December 16, 2025, at 9:24 AM Pacific Time, the air quality in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, was in the "hazardous" range with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 302, the post states.
Air quality is dynamic. Like the weather, air quality can change frequently. Sarajevo is ranked today as the most polluted major city in the world.
Although the air quality was poor on Tuesday evening, it is important to remember that the average concentration of PM2.5 particles in 2024 for Sarajevo was 30.8 µg/m³. This corresponds to an AQI of 90, which falls into the moderate category and was 6.1 times higher than the WHO annual guideline of 5 µg/m³.
