Sarajevo: Citizens on the streets again due to relocation of the Methadone Center

(Patria) - A large number of citizens from the Sarajevo neighborhoods of Breka and Višnjik took to the streets today to protest the relocation of the Methadone Center from the Crni Vrh neighborhood to a new address on Bolnička Street.

The gathering began at 6:00 PM, after which a peaceful protest march commenced, writes Hayat.

Citizens expressed deep concern for the safety of their children, especially considering the imminent start of the school year.

- Our children pass this way every day. Is it really reasonable for a child to encounter people who are potentially under the influence of substances on their way to school or kindergarten? - ask the outraged parents.

Citizens say that everything was done without public discussion, they are concerned and demand a reaction from the authorities.

The Centar Municipal Council also convened yesterday and unanimously concluded that the Methadone Center, where addiction patients are treated, must be relocated from the Park-Višnjik Local Community by September 1st at the latest, as it is located near educational institutions.

It was concluded that 24-hour police patrols should be introduced in this area and that the competent institutions should find a permanent solution, not excluding decentralization in consultation with local communities.
