(Patria) - A large coordinated cleanup operation that took place this week in the municipality of Ilidža has been successfully concluded.
The SarajECO operation is the result of cooperation between the Ministry of Communal Economy of Sarajevo Canton and the Ilidža Municipality, involving KJKP Park, KJKP Rad, KJKP ViK, KJU for Protected Natural Areas Sarajevo, KJKP Pokop, JP Ilidža, and the Ilidža Fire Department, with support from the Civil Protection Service of Ilidža Municipality.
Work focused on removing bulky, improperly disposed household waste from public areas across sixteen local communities. Additionally, manual and mechanical cleaning, mowing and maintenance of green areas, tree pruning, and special emphasis on unclogging road drains were carried out.
During the operation, according to the report from KJKP Rad, a total of 152,580 kilograms of waste was loaded and disposed of. At the same time, 270,900 square meters were manually cleaned, collecting 27,250 kg of fractions and fine waste, while mechanical cleaning covered 511,175 square meters, collecting 41,750 kg of waste.
Vehicles and machinery from KJKP Rad alone washed an area of 1,044,493 square meters, but the washed area is much larger considering that tankers from other companies also participated in the cleanup.
During the operation, KJKP Park repaired 163 lighting fixtures, serviced over 100 benches, and cut down 11 trees that posed a risk to public safety.
Excellent support for the large number of workers from cantonal companies came from students of the Fourth, Fifth, and Tenth Elementary Schools, members of the Šampion Football School, and students from the International University of Burch, who demonstrated through their actions that they care deeply about their environment.
A significant contribution to the five-day operation was made by members of the Association of Camp Fighters of Ilidža Municipality, while employees and machinery from Sarajevo International Airport provided great support. The Agency for Cleaning and Maintenance of Green Areas MyHome tidied up part of the green spaces in the Otes local community, and all participants were awarded certificates of appreciation for their involvement in the SarajECO 2024 operation.
- I want to thank the relevant ministry, all cantonal public companies that participated in this operation, as well as our Public Company Ilidža. Special thanks to the children and fellow citizens who joined this operation to make their everyday living environment even more beautiful. We concluded the operation by awarding certificates of appreciation to workers and volunteers who contributed to cleaning and arranging Ilidža - said Mayor Nermin Muzur.
