(Patria) - Madrid will become the fourth European city to host an American professional football league (NFL) game in 2025.
The match will be played at Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu stadium, Hina reports.
The first European city to host an NFL game was London back in 2007, and 36 NFL duels have been played there so far.
Of these, most were at Wembley, several were played at Twickenham, and since 2019, the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium has also been a host.
The first NFL game in Germany was played in 2022 at the Allianz Arena in Munich, while Frankfurt joined the list this year.
"The arrival of the NFL at the Santiago Bernabeu is an important event in sports history. This strategic collaboration will strengthen our two brands globally and will be enthusiastically welcomed by millions of people on all continents," announced Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
In addition to Europe, NFL games have also been played at the Azteca stadium in Mexico City, and the first game in South America is scheduled for 2024.
On September 6, the Philadelphia Eagles will host an as-yet-unknown opponent at the Corinthians stadium in Sao Paulo.
Another game will be played in Brazil next year, and for its hosting, along with Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and the legendary Maracana stadium, are competing.
