US SANCTIONS Čavara does not give up: Again seeks amendments to the law that would allow him to receive salary in cash

(Patria) - Member of the leadership of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Marinko Čavara (HDZBiH) has again proposed the Law on Amendments to the Law on Financing of BiH Institutions, reports Patria.

In the proposal submitted to this House, he requests that it be debated under an urgent legislative procedure.

Čavara requests that the payment of salaries and other employee benefits be enabled in cases where payment is impossible through a current account, and the aforementioned is not based on a legally binding court, administrative, or other decision of a competent authority, and for the payment of travel expenses and other material costs.

Otherwise, Čavara has been under US sanctions since June 2022, and after the closure of his bank account in March 2024, his salary payments were suspended.

Although he has previously submitted this proposal for procedure, it has not yet been adopted by both houses of the PS BiH, and on one occasion it was rejected by the House of Peoples of the PS BiH.

Čavara assessed that now would be a suitable time to propose this law. Although the US Embassy previously condemned the attempt to circumvent sanctions, Čavara is likely counting on the fact that due to the change in the Americans' approach regarding the lifting of sanctions on Dodik and several other individuals from the RS entity (Nikola Špirić remained on the blacklist), this attempt of his will go unnoticed.
