Sanin Bogunić re-elected President of HJPC BiH

(Patria) - Sanin Bogunić, as the sole candidate, was re-elected President of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sanela Gorušanović-Butigan and Velimir Ninković were elected Vice-Presidents. Bogunić has presided over the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) since February of this year, and his mandate as president expired due to the completion of his four-year term.

He was elected as a member of the Council on September 9, 2021, and all 14 present members voted for his re-election as president. Sanela Gorušanović-Butigan nominated Bogunić as a candidate, stating that the Council had functioned well during the previous six months.

“I don’t think there is a need to change a winning team, at least at this moment,” Gorušanović-Butigan said. In his address before the election, Bogunić stated that he would strive to ensure and perhaps improve the integrity of the judiciary, and that a good atmosphere had been created within the Council in the previous period.

Bogunić has been a prosecutor at the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office in Sarajevo since March 21, 2008. From January 2015 to December 2018, he served as the Head of the Department for Economic Crime and Corruption at this prosecutor's office. Following the election of the president, the Vice-Presidents of the Council – Sanela Gorušanović-Butigan and Velimir Ninković – were also re-elected.

Gorušanović-Butigan stated in her presentation that she had also worked well in her first term and believed she could perform even better, especially in a good atmosphere. “There was no minute wasted because I knew all the responsibilities. In that regard, with this presidency and the changes we have made, we can achieve good results,” Gorušanović-Butigan said.

All present members of the Council voted for Gorušanović-Butigan and Ninković, BIRN BiH reports.
