Only nine out of 91 high schools in RS plan to enroll more than 200 students in the first grade

(Patria) - Only nine out of a total of 91 high schools in the Republika Srpska entity plan to enroll more than 200 students in the first grade in the next school year, according to the plan of the Ministry of Education and Culture of RS.

As stated in the Plan for enrolling students in high schools for the 2026/2027 school year, these are nine schools in Zvornik, Bijeljina, Prnjavor, and Banja Luka, Nezavisne novine reports.

Thus, among the schools expecting the most new students are the Zvornik Technical School Center, which plans to enroll 216 students in nine classes.

Another school in Zvornik planning to enroll a large number of students, 240 of them in 10 classes, is the "Petar Kočić" High School Center.

Both the "Mihajlo Pupin" Technical School and the Agricultural and Medical School in Bijeljina plan to enroll 264 students each in the first grade next school year. In both schools, according to the plan data, 11 classes will be enrolled.

The "Ivo Andrić" Center of High Schools from Prnjavor also plans to enroll 216 students through nine classes.

The largest number of schools that will enroll more than 200 students are from Banja Luka, with the Technical School particularly standing out, planning to enroll 384 students in 16 classes.

This school is followed by the Banja Luka Gymnasium with 260 students and 11 classes.

A total of 224 students are planned to be enrolled in the first grade from the next school year at the "Nikola Tesla" Electrical Engineering School in Banja Luka, and according to the enrollment plan, they will be distributed into eight classes.

The Banja Luka School of Technology also plans to enroll more than 200 students, specifically 216, through nine classes.

Great interest in technical professions

Irina Čavić, director of the "Nikola Tesla" Electrical Engineering School in Banja Luka, hopes they will enroll all 224 planned students, stating that there has been great interest from students in enrolling in this school for years.

"We enroll in four professions: electronics technician, telecommunications technician, computer and programming technician, and electrical power technician. Indeed, there is great interest from students. They are already calling the school, inquiring, so we expect to enroll the number of students from the plan," she stated in an interview with "Nezavisne novine".

The "Mihajlo Pupin" Technical School in Bijeljina also hopes for a good enrollment period. According to Milenko Maksimović, the school's director, the enrollment plan was made based on the Association of High School Directors at the Bijeljina region level and the number of students finishing elementary school, i.e., the ninth grade.

"For the last five or more years, we have been enrolling 11 classes, and even every fourth year, we enrolled 12 classes. As for the Technical School, there has always been great interest. There was even great interest in vocational trades. There were students who didn't make the cut, and we hope to enroll this quota of about 264 students in 11 classes," Maksimović emphasized in an interview with "Nezavisne novine".

Some of the professions offered by this school include computer and programming technician, electrician, CNC technology technician, locksmith-welder, toolmaker, road transport technician, motor vehicle driver, and others.
