Salkić in Denmark: Giving up the fight for BiH is not and must not be an option

(Patria) - Revisionism, denial of genocide and glorification of perpetrators of genocide represent a repetition of the crime against the surviving victims of genocide, and these processes pose a fundamental threat to peace, not only in BiH, but far beyond.

This was stated in his address yesterday at the event "Remembering the Victims of the Srebrenica Genocide" in the Danish town of Tønder by Ramiz Salkić, a member of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- Revisionism, in all its forms, represents a strategic direction of action by political representatives of Bosnian Serbs and Serbia, aimed at denying and concealing the truth about the genocide committed against Bosniaks.

It is necessary to act against this phenomenon by spreading the truth, fighting against the denial of genocide, and stopping the glorification of war criminals - Salkić said.

According to his words, spreading the truth about the aggression, camps, persecution and genocide against Bosniaks should be part of our family upbringing, with the aim of preventing oblivion and preventing the repetition of crimes.

- How many of our descendants will be at such commemorations in 50 years will be the measure of how much we, the survivors, have succeeded in preserving the truth, memory and culture of remembrance - Salkić stated.

On that path, he adds, it is necessary to promote the need to eliminate the consequences of genocide in all fields of social activity.

- Without serious work on eliminating the consequences of genocide, it is difficult to expect that the surviving victims of genocide will achieve their full rights after returning to the entity of RS, from which they were previously expelled.

Each of us can and should contribute to that path. One of the key tasks is not to give up and to strengthen ties with the places we were expelled from and with our hearths.

No one has the right to forget and give up. Our individual disappointments must not be a reason or excuse for giving up the fight for our homeland, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Your registration, participation in elections and voting for those who are truly committed to the truth and protection of the interests of those who are disenfranchised in the RS entity represent a contribution to neutralizing the consequences of serious crimes and genocide - Salkić emphasizes.

He also states that no one has the right to remain passive and on the sidelines, giving up with the explanation that nothing can be changed, and adds that every vote, engagement and contribution is important in the fight for truth, justice and equal status for all citizens.

- Our homeland today is again exposed to strong pressures from radical circles within the Serbian political corpus, who are committed to separatism and the division of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We need the wisdom, perseverance and persistence of every individual on the path of fighting for the truth, opposing the followers of the ideology on whose foundations and goals the genocide against Bosniaks was committed during the aggression.

The situation, no matter how difficult, is still better today than in 1992. Today we are more aware, more responsible and more organized than we were then. Our goal is peace, freedom and a homeland of equal rights for all its peoples and citizens throughout the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Giving up is not and must not be an option. That is why I call on you to every form of activism, including political activism, because ultimately the most important decisions are made in parliaments, and their content is shaped by those who have the majority.

That is why we must improve our political position in the RS and increase our influence on decision-making. You can have an important and great role on that path.

I call on you to be aware of your strength, your potential and your responsibility. Together we can do much more and much better for our homeland, for the truth and for eliminating the consequences of genocide.

We owe this to those who were killed during the aggression, but also to the generations that come after us. I congratulate you on your organization and the achievements you have made here.

I call on you to continue working together to make our homeland Bosnia and Herzegovina stronger, prouder and more successful - Salkić concluded in his address.
