(Patria) - Cantonal delegate and former member of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Jasmin Šaljić reacted on social media, condemning the public address of the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Denis Bećirović, at the Kovači cemetery during the commemoration of Martyrs' Day, the second day of Eid al-Fitr.
Šaljić called on the Association of Families of Martyrs and Fallen Soldiers of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as other veterans' associations, to speak out and react to the political speech used for political settling of scores and the brazen abuse of Martyrs' Day by a member of the Presidency of BiH at the Kovači cemetery.
"Instead of Bećirović paying tribute to the fallen members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina at Kovači and expressing words of gratitude and sending messages of unity in these turbulent and difficult times in the region and the world, he used the protocol attention on a religious holiday to start his election campaign and present his invisible work results, which have absolutely nothing to do with paying tribute at the Kovači cemetery. A messenger and a man who recites Fatiha only in election years, he used Martyrs' Day to send political messages for settling scores with all those who critically comment on his work as a member of the Presidency of BiH. Thus, next to the tombstones, for personal promotion, he claimed that he supposedly works tirelessly and is responsible for everything from quiet diplomacy to promoting BiH on the world stage, while all along numerous liars and troublemakers hinder him and present him negatively to the public," Šaljić stated.
He further points out that Bećirović forgot to mention that the coalition that propelled him to the Presidency recently increased the veterans' allowance for their living comrades by a mere 63 feninga.
"He forgot that his mentor, a 'chance passerby,' and their party froze their status during the aggression, and that the fighters did not die for the SDP and this imposed coalition, nor for any other political party, but for the defense of the country and the defense of civilizational values and their families. For this type of speech, a press conference should be called at the party headquarters or in the Presidency, and then self-praise and self-promotion can take place, provided that no journalist asks a difficult question, a follow-up question, or requests a tricky answer. Does anyone remember him ever holding a press conference? Party and political speeches have no place in cemeteries; he took the opportunity for promotion and election campaigning precisely from this place where parties and politics should not come near. Because all the martyrs and fallen soldiers did not die for parties, but for the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina," Šaljić concluded.
