Safet Sušić celebrates his 60th birthday today: A name that will be written in golden letters in BiH football

Safet Sušić Pape, former coach of the BiH national football team, celebrates his 60th birthday today, writes the Patria News Agency.

He is the first coach to succeed in taking the Dragons to a major competition, and although the appearance in Brazil did not end as planned, Pape will be remembered in the history of BiH representative football.

- Happy birthday to Safet Sušić, the best player in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the second-best scorer for Football Club Sarajevo. Pape scored 96 goals in the jersey of the maroon club - says the congratulation from FK Sarajevo.

Otherwise, Pape was one of the best footballers in Europe and the world of his generation. He began his career at Krivaja from Zavidovići, where he started playing in the first team at the age of 16.

He started the 1972/73 season as a player for FK Sarajevo, first as a junior, and on August 3, 1973, he debuted in the starting lineup of the seniors.

In 1979, Safet Sušić was chosen as the best athlete of BiH and the best footballer of Yugoslavia. In 1981, he received the Sixth of April Award of the City of Sarajevo.

After brilliant performances in the national jersey and for FK Sarajevo, and after meeting the legal requirement of 28 years of age needed to move abroad, the biggest European clubs were chasing Sušić. The deal with Inter was already agreed upon, and Sušić had reportedly signed a preliminary contract, however, Torino intervened with a better offer, and after Sušić decided to sign for Torino, Inter complained to the Italian Football Federation, and as a result, Sušić received a one-year suspension from coming to Italy.

In the early eighties, in 1982, Safet moved to Paris Saint-Germain, where he stayed for 9 years. In the team from the capital of France, Sušić also left a significant mark. He is one of the greatest footballers who played for the club. Many PSG fans claim he is the best foreign player of all time. In 1983, he was officially declared the best foreign player in France.

He ended his football career in 1992 at the age of 37, playing for the French club Red Star. According to him, the only unfulfilled wish in his career was to play for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
