LET'S PRESERVE SEVDALINKA Sign the petition because sevdalinka deserves a place in UNESCO!

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Sevdalinka could be described as one of the world's great undiscovered musical styles, whose beauty can rival Portuguese fado and Argentine tango.

It is intriguing, seductive music that still attracts all ages today.

Sevdalinka combines influences from Ukrainian, Greek, Romanian, Roma and Sephardic musical forms, with a special emphasis on Ottoman ones. According to writings, the mixing of these influences occurred in Balkan cities as meeting points of different cultures, especially in Bosnia. Sevdah is a word of Turkish origin and translates to love, as stated in a press release from TNT radio.

While sevdalinka is known in all the mentioned regions, its special Bosnian fusion creates a unique sound and uses lyrics usually written by urban poets. But regardless of definition, sevdalinka is said to be music that, after just a few notes, makes the heart swell with tenderness. It is an incredible feeling to listen to recordings more than half a century old or even from the beginning of the twentieth century, featuring audio recordings of sevdalinka performers. Therefore, sevdalinka is a song that holds immense poetic, musical and historical significance for all of us.

Let's preserve sevdalinka together!

The proposal to include Sevdalinka on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage was created in January 2017 and is the only proper way to preserve this treasure of ours.

Unfortunately, the duration of the procedure is currently uncertain, and the process for nominating for UNESCO protection is lengthy and requires extensive documentation. It is certainly important to know that for Sevdalinka to enter the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage and be accepted by this body, it is important that it is nurtured as part of existing cultural heritage.

To preserve our tradition, let us all contribute and support the project "Sevdalinka in UNESCO" by signing the petition. The goal of the petition is exclusively to collect votes of support, which will inform the wider public about the initiative to include Sevdalinka on the UNESCO list, in order to protect our cultural heritage.
