(Patria) - The Assembly of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, at today's session in Sarajevo, supported the initiative to adopt a Resolution in the United Nations General Assembly, which designates July 11th as the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Srebrenica Genocide in 1995.
In a Statement of Support for the initiative to adopt a Resolution in the UN General Assembly, the Assembly members assessed that the adoption of such a resolution at the highest international level strengthens international law and prevents the recurrence of systematic violations of International Criminal Law and the crime of genocide.
The Assembly of the Islamic Community believes that the adoption of the Resolution on the Srebrenica Genocide creates preconditions for stable and lasting peace in the world, especially in our region, as well as a basis for building trust on the principles of truth and justice.
It was also stated at the session that the Assembly expects this statement not to be maliciously politicized or interpreted as an attempt to impose collective guilt on anyone. During today's session, the Reis-ul-ulema Husein-ef. Kavazović addressed the Assembly members, assessing the negative reactions to the adoption of the proposed resolution in the United Nations as unreasonable.
“I think all of us and the international community have reason to worry when we hear threats of violence and war from the highest state officials in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia if a resolution is adopted that has no political implications, nor imposes collective guilt on anyone. The expected adoption of the Resolution will lay the foundation for preserving the truth about the genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and for rebuilding trust and peace on the foundations of truth and justice,” said the Reis-ul-ulema.
